Premium drinks distributor 1492 Coloniale Group, based in Genoa, is expanding its offerings to meet the growing interest in tequila and other agave-based spirits across Italy. The company is adding a selection of lesser-known Mexican brands to its portfolio, aiming to elevate the cocktail scene and appeal to adventurous consumers.
New Additions to the Italian Market
The group has introduced several Mexican spirits to its portfolio, including:
Defrente Tequila Blanco
Nocheluna Sotol
Santo Cuviso Bacanora
Perra Suerte Raicilla
These brands now join existing products such as Contraluz Mezcal, which is especially popular for its Cristalino and Reposado 11:11 expressions.
A Strategic Focus on Mixology
Gabriele Benedettini, Portfolio Manager at 1492 Coloniale, said the group’s strategy is rooted in mixology—a tool they use to grow consumer interest and make cocktail culture more accessible.
“In a highly competitive market, the 1492 Coloniale Group has taken a unique approach,” Benedettini explained. “We see mixology as a strategic way to boost demand and bring cocktail experiences to a wider audience.”
He also praised the brand AliasSmith for its dedication to building strong identities for each product. “Their commitment mirrors our philosophy,” he said, “treating each brand as if it were their own alias.”
Key Partnerships with Mexican Distillers
The distributor is also deepening its collaboration with Casa Lumbre, a respected Mexican distillery known for innovative products. Casa Lumbre’s Contraluz Mezcal has become a flagship item in 1492 Coloniale’s Italian distribution.
“This partnership allows us to bring high-quality, authentic Mexican spirits to the Italian market,” said Benedettini. “It’s a natural fit with our mission to offer unique and premium beverages.”
Supporting Brands with In-House Services
In addition to distribution, 1492 Coloniale Group operates an internal communications agency. This division provides customized marketing campaigns and product-specific support for brands and B2B clients.
“We offer professional consulting, technical training, and tailored communication strategies,” Benedettini said. “This integrated model allows us to help our partners grow while delivering valuable experiences to consumers.”
