ZÜRICH, May 19, 2025 — Switzerland’s finest wine programs were celebrated this afternoon as Star Wine List Founder and Publisher Krister Bengtsson presented the prestigious Gold Stars at a ceremony in Zürich. The top honour, the Grand Prix, was awarded to the five-star Park Hotel Vitznau, highlighting its comprehensive and distinguished wine offering.
The event, hosted at Chez Smith, marked Switzerland’s first in-person and dedicated Star Wine List of the Year awards. Previous editions included a virtual event in 2021 and a joint celebration with Austria and Germany in 2024. The 2025 ceremony recognized outstanding wine lists across nine categories, with all winners advancing to the Star Wine List of the Year International Final, scheduled to take place in Vienna this June.
Wunderbrunnen in Opfikon earned high praise with two Gold Stars, including Best By the Glass List and Best Austrian Wine List, underscoring its diverse and accessible selections. Other notable winners included 169 West in Zürich, Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne, and Matière in Geneva, each recognized for excellence in their respective categories.
“Switzerland’s wine programs reflect its geographic and cultural richness,” noted judge Nina Jensen, who served on the jury alongside Master Sommelier Bertrand Lutaud and sommelier Reeze Choi. “These lists exhibit a deep respect for sommelier traditions and craftsmanship, while also embracing innovation and showcasing remarkable support for local Swiss wines.”
The awards are part of Star Wine List’s global celebration of exceptional wine lists and the professionals behind them. Launched in Stockholm in 2017, Star Wine List now operates in over 45 countries, offering its curated selections through its website and app.
