Aberfeldy Distillery, located in the Scottish Highlands and known for producing Aberfeldy single malt and Dewar’s blended whiskies, is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its visitor centre and whisky experience with a special release.
Aged 22 Years and Finished in Oloroso Sherry Casks
To commemorate the occasion, the distillery has unveiled an exclusive 22-year-old single malt whisky. This release is part of Aberfeldy’s “Exceptional Cask Series,” which showcases rare single cask, double cask, and small batch whiskies.
The whisky was aged in traditional oak before being finished in Oloroso sherry casks from Jerez, Spain. The result is a spirit with aromas of orchard fruit, juicy pear, and caramel apple. On the palate, it reveals notes of vanilla, heather honey, toasted oak, and a touch of clove.
Crafted with Precision and Care
Aberfeldy’s Master Maltster, Stephanie Macleod, said the team carefully tracked the cask maturation to bring out the natural flavors of the whisky.
“Our aim is always to highlight the inherent qualities of a whisky, not mask them,” Macleod explained. “To create this 22-year-old, we carefully monitored the cask aging process to ensure that the influence of Oloroso would bring depth, warmth and additional layers of fruit and spice. It seemed the perfect way to celebrate the distillery’s 25th anniversary by sharing a whisky that reflects the character and craft that we are famous for.”
Limited Bottles and Global Availability
Only 552 bottles of this rare release are available worldwide. Each bottle is priced at £195 (approximately $260 USD). Customers can purchase the whisky directly from the Aberfeldy Distillery or through its official online store.
A Year of Celebrations Ahead
In addition to the 22-year-old release, Dewar’s Aberfeldy Distillery is planning a year-long celebration to mark its 25th year as a visitor destination. Guests can look forward to special events, whisky tastings, and behind-the-scenes tours throughout 2024.
Looking Back and Ahead
While this year celebrates 25 years of the visitor centre, Aberfeldy Distillery itself has a much longer history. It was originally founded in 1898. In 2023, the brand marked its 125th anniversary with the launch of a limited-edition 25-year-old single malt—another rare expression that honored its deep heritage.
