Fèis Ìle, the annual Islay whisky and music festival, runs from May 23 to 31 this year. Mac-Talla has marked the occasion with its third special bottling in as many years. The 2025 edition is a small-batch single malt aged in first-fill Amarone della Valpolicella wine casks from northern Italy.
Tasting Profile and Strength
Bottled at 53.8% ABV, the Amarone Cask Edition delivers dark fruit and spice on the nose, with layers of chocolate and Mac-Talla’s trademark coastal smoke on the finish. The whisky carries no age statement and comes from just two casks.
Brand Background and Naming
Mac-Talla, meaning “echo” in Scottish Gaelic, was founded by the Morrison family to honor their bond with Islay. The brand sources spirit from unnamed Islay distilleries, then marries marine-peat character with distinctive cask finishes.
Availability and Price
The 2025 Amarone Cask Edition is available now through specialist whisky retailers at an RRP of £78 ($104). Quantities are strictly limited.
Festival Events and Brand Activities
At this year’s festival, Mac-Talla will host private tastings and a “Taste Journey” on May 26, led by brand ambassador Thomas Cuthbert. These events aim to showcase the new release alongside Mac-Talla’s other expressions.
Previous Festival Editions
2023 Edition: Finished in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks
2024 Edition: Matured in premium rum casks
Each annual release highlights Mac-Talla’s exploration of cask diversity while preserving the peaty soul of Islay malt.
