Tamdhu Adds 21-Year-Old Whisky To Core Range

by Ivy

Tamdhu Distillery, known for its rich heritage and dedication to sherry cask maturation, has announced the release of a new limited edition 21-year-old single malt whisky. This release, named ‘Maturity’, celebrates over a century of craftsmanship on the banks of the River Spey.

Aged in Exceptional Sherry Casks from Spain

The new 21-year-old expression is fully matured in Oloroso sherry casks, mainly made from European oak. These casks were prepared in the distillery’s own cooperage and cellars in Jerez, Spain.

“Tamdhu Distillery is located on the banks of the River Spey and uses local spring water to make its spirit. This limited edition 21-year-old whisky, like all Tamdhu single malts, is fully matured in Oloroso sherry casks, which gives it a unique flavour and all-natural colour, making this spirit elegant and unique.”

Rich Aroma and Complex Flavour

The whisky is bottled at 47.5% ABV and is non-chill filtered. Its aroma reveals layers of sherry oak, chocolate, sultanas, toffee, cinnamon oatmeal, mocha, and marzipan. On the palate, it brings forward festive notes of Christmas cake, featuring sherry-soaked raisins and candied orange.

Exclusive Release with Global Reach

This 21-year-old single malt will be part of Tamdhu’s global portfolio. It will first be released in the UK, followed by markets across Europe. Only 12,000 bottles will be produced each year.

The recommended retail price is £299 ($403) for a 700ml bottle.

Elegant Design Inspired by Spain

The whisky comes in a distinctive octagonal bottle. It is packaged in a royal green gift box with a Spanish-Moorish design, paying tribute to the southern Spanish origins of its sherry casks.

The box features metal Tamdhu lettering and includes an inner compartment with a sliding drawer. Inside, buyers will find a booklet with tasting notes. The closure is made from blonde wood, and the bottle cap is adorned with a gold Tamdhu logo.

A Tribute to Craftsmanship and Patience

Sandy McIntyre, Tamdhu’s distillery manager, highlighted the care behind the release:

“Our patience and dedication are reflected in every sip of Tamdhu 21 Year Old. This latest release is a perfect example of our commitment to the journey from Spain to Speyside. Oloroso sherry casks from Spain bring exceptional quality to our whisky and give this brand a unique and refined flavour from one of Scotland’s most pristine regions.”

Festival Appearance and New Partnerships

Tamdhu recently unveiled a limited release of just 250 bottles of its 21-Year-Old Cask Spirit at the Speyside Spirit Festival. This exclusive bottling sold out quickly online.

In addition, Tamdhu partnered with UK retailer Waitrose earlier this month to launch a 12-year-old limited edition whisky. Proceeds from this release will support the Atlantic Salmon Trust.

Enhanced Visitor Experience

Although Tamdhu does not currently have a visitor centre at its main distillery, it has introduced a new hosted experience at its sister site, the Rosebank distillery in Falkirk. This gives whisky lovers a chance to learn more about Tamdhu’s heritage and taste its signature expressions.
