The new series is dedicated to exclusive bottlings at the distillery, starting with a 24-year-old Kentucky Straight Bourbon.
Founded in 1935, the Louisville, Kentucky distillery is considered part of American whiskey history, having been home to WL Weller, Old Fitzgerald and Pappy Van Winkle Bourbons.
The distillery closed in 1992 and its brands moved elsewhere.
In 2014, Diageo restored Stitzel-Weller and reopened it as the Bulleit Frontier Whiskey Experience.
Today, the distillery is home to brands such as Blade & Bow, IW Harper and Orphan Barrel.
The new Stitzel Reserve series will be a platform to bring aged liquids from precious archival barrels to visitors to the distillery.
The first Stitzel Reserve 24 Year Old is said to celebrate the 90-year history of Stitzel-Weller Distillery and was conceived by Nicole Austin, Director of Diageo American Whiskey Development and Capacity.
Made from nine barrels selected by Austin in 1999, the whiskey is limited to 191 bottles at 61.7% ABV.
Prices for 750ml bottles are available from the distillery.
“At Stitzel-Weller, we are the proud heirs of some of the most exceptional aging barrels in the United States. The launch of Stitzel Reserve is a pivotal moment for our distillery. It is a nod to the past, but also a bold step forward,” said Austin.
This exceptional 24 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon, carefully aged over decades to develop rich notes of cracked leather, saddle oil and caramel, embodies the craftsmanship and dedication of Stitzel-Weller Distillery.
Each release in the series will be extremely limited, with no predetermined timeline.
The first bottlings will be available to consumers aged 21 and over from June 2025.
You can also taste the new whiskey through the Stitzel-Weller Distillery’s Garden & Gun Club, where purchases will include an etched whiskey glass with a branded bag and a limited edition distillery pin.
