by Ivy

The English Distillery (known as St George’s Distillery until 2016) was established in Norfolk in 2006 and was the first registered whisky distillery in the UK in over 100 years.

The family-owned distillery was founded by the late James Nelstrop and is currently led by his son and chairman Andrew.

As part of the distillery’s 18th anniversary celebrations, The English will host a series of events and launches, as well as relaunch its Chapter Series, starting with a limited release of Chapter 18.

The single malt whisky is a blend of whiskies aged 10, 12, 15 and 18 years, and is aged in bourbon, sherry and virgin oak casks.

Made predominantly from unpeated barley, with some whiskies using lightly peated barley, the range offers notes of stewed orchard fruit, rhubarb, egg taffy, oak, caramel, spicy black pepper, brown sugar and cinnamon.

Andrew said: “When I release a whisky I always focus more on its taste than the age, cask type or subtleties of the grain used. Over the years I have used this philosophy to create a range of single cask and single malt whiskies that are widely recognised as being excellent.”

“I know that as the first registered whisky distillery in the UK some of our whiskies are bought to be collected rather than drunk (which I am honoured to do) but I sincerely hope that those who buy this whisky will open it and share it with a friend.”

He added: “Join us in celebrating our 18th anniversary as a distillery, which is also the birthday of our founder James Nelstrop, and raise a glass to many more achievements in the future. ”

English Chapter 18 has an ABV of 46% and is limited to 7,500 individually numbered bottles worldwide.
The limited edition has a suggested retail price of £75 ($102).

In April this year, the distillery partnered with the charity Walking With the Wounded to release a single malt to celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
