The Beer Store Announces Closure of Northern Ontario Location Amid Industry Changes

by Kaia

The Beer Store has confirmed it will close its outlet in Iroquois Falls, northern Ontario, on August 10, as part of a broader series of store closures. This location is among ten stores ceasing operations on that date, with most closures occurring within the Greater Toronto Area, according to a company statement released Monday.

Ozzie Ahmed, Vice-President of Retail, described the decision as difficult but necessary, emphasizing the company’s ongoing commitment to delivering quality beer, excellent customer service, and a leading recycling program that returned more containers than were sold last year.

Acknowledging the challenges posed by a shifting marketplace, Ahmed stated, “Modernizing operations in a changing marketplace is never easy. We know this will be difficult news for customers and employees. The Beer Store is committed to treating employees with respect and supporting them during this process.”

The company pledged to provide support to affected employees in accordance with existing commitments and agreements.

In addition to the Iroquois Falls closure, the Beer Store location in Sault Ste. Marie has been repurposed as a distribution warehouse. Last year, outlets in Cochrane, Geraldton, and Nipigon were also permanently closed.

The closures reflect ongoing industry shifts, particularly the recent expansion of beer and wine sales in convenience stores, which has influenced The Beer Store’s operational decisions.
