What Makes Cask Strength Select Unique?
Traditionally, Knob Creek Single Barrel Select bourbons are bottled at 120 proof and ryes at 115 proof, but these undergo dilution and filtration before bottling to maintain consistency. The new Cask Strength Select line removes this step, allowing retailers to taste and select barrels that will be bottled at their natural barrel proof, typically ranging:
Bourbon: Approximately 110 to 130 proof
Rye: Approximately 100 to 120 proof
Because of the variability in barrel aging, each batch will have unique proof levels and flavor nuances, resulting in greater barrel-to-barrel variation that aficionados appreciate.
Richer, More Nuanced Flavor Profiles
Despite the variations, fans can expect a more robust version of Knob Creek’s classic flavor notes:
Bourbon: Slightly smoky oak, caramel, and hazelnut
