Contraluz, known as the world’s first Cristalino mezcal, has introduced its inaugural Cristalino Tequila, further redefining the Cristalino spirits category. This new offering is crafted to elevate everyday toasts with a smooth, modern taste, and marks Contraluz’s expansion from mezcal into 100% blue agave tequila.
Partnership Between Casa Lumbre and Maluma Drives Innovation
The launch is the third release under the Contraluz brand and reflects a creative partnership between Casa Lumbre, a global spirits company celebrated for pioneering Mexican distilling techniques, and international star Juan Luis Londoño Arias (Maluma), who serves as both partner and investor.
“I am honored to continue my partnership with Casa Lumbre as we unveil the latest evolution of Contraluz,” said Maluma. “This Cristalino tequila is smooth, easy to drink, and perfect for sharing. We crafted it to make everyday moments worth celebrating.”
Unique Production Technique Preserves Agave Character
Produced in the highlands of Jalisco, Contraluz Cristalino Tequila uses traditional aging methods plus an innovative dual process:
Redistillation of part of the aged tequila for clarity and distinct agave flavor.
Charcoal filtration of the remaining spirit to remove barrel color and refine the finish.
This blend retains the rich aromas from the agave and wood aging, while delivering a clear, smooth spirit.
“By combining filtration and redistillation, we highlight the core ingredients of tequila—agave, water, yeast, and wood aromas—into a clear spirit that keeps barrel-aged complexity but offers a seductive smooth finish,” explained Iván Saldaña, Chief Innovation Officer and co-founder of Casa Lumbre.
Accessible Price Point and Growing Lineup
Priced at a suggested $42.99 per bottle, Contraluz Cristalino Tequila aims to reach a broad audience with its approachable cost. Moises Guindi, co-founder and CEO of Casa Lumbre, noted, “With this latest innovation, Contraluz offers a unique agave spirit ideal for any occasion.”
Contraluz’s portfolio now includes:
Contraluz Cristalino Mezcal, the first to apply charcoal filtration to aged mezcal
Contraluz 11:11, a limited-edition tequila aged in cherrywood barrels
Contraluz Cristalino Tequila, the brand’s new entry into the tequila category
By blending tradition with innovation, Contraluz continues to expand the Cristalino category and invite new consumers to experience high-quality, aged agave spirits.
