Cortada is made by fourth-generation Master Distiller Graciela ‘Grace’ Gonzalez and is described as a premium tequila “with a hint of smoke”.
Made in Los Altos, Jalisco Valley, the tequila is made from 100% Blue Weber Agave grown in the state. The agave is cooked and then smoked with mesquite and Mexican oak, giving the tequila its distinctive smoky flavor.
“Cortada represents generations of craftsmanship and innovation. It’s elegant yet spicy,” Gonzalez said.
Cortada is available in two flavors: Blanco and Reposado. Blanco features notes of ripe pineapple, agave syrup and spicy wood fire, while the bourbon barrel-aged Reposado offers notes of dark chocolate, pepper and cloves.
Both tequilas can be enjoyed neat or on the rocks, or mixed in cocktails such as a Margarita or Old Fashioned.
“Cortada allows us to breathe new life into tequila. Smoked spirits are igniting new creativity in the spirits world – and Cortada brings this bold innovation to tequila,” said Kayleigh Longo, Cortada Brand Manager.
“The interaction of the light smoke flavor with tequila makes it a must-try for anyone looking for a spicier spirit or cocktail experience.”
Cortada Smoked Tequila is available exclusively in Denver, Colorado, and through e-commerce channels in partnership with Shared Pour.
The suggested retail price for the blanco is $49.99 and the reposado is $54.99.
Gonzalez commented on the launch: “Denver is the perfect city for this launch – it has a rich cultural history and is always pushing the boundaries to create new things. I’m excited to see what the local creative bartenders come up with with Cortada.”
Luxco, which operates under MGP Ingredients, reported a 16% decline in sales in the fourth quarter of 2024.
