Sydney-based brewery Young Henrys has unveiled Brian’s Brew, a pale ale crafted in collaboration with Brian, a passionate homebrewer and resident of Youngcare. The release celebrates Brian’s journey and supports Youngcare’s work to provide housing and independence for young Australians with significant disabilities.
Brian, now 23, suffered a traumatic brain injury after returning from deployment in Iraq as an Australian Navy Officer. His injury, caused by a poisoned cigar, left him unable to walk or speak and resulted in 11 years spent in care without adequate support. Thanks to a Home Soon Grant from Youngcare, Brian moved into a Youngcare Share House, where he now lives confidently with the right assistance.
Brian’s enthusiasm for homebrewing led to a partnership with Young Henrys, culminating in the creation of Brian’s Brew. The pale ale combines Australian, American, and New Zealand hops—Vic Secret, Citra Lupomax, and Riwaka—on a base of German Pilsner malt, wheat, and rye, offering a crisp, citrusy, and tropical aroma.
Young Henrys’ Head Brewer Jesse Searls described the project as a dream collaboration: “We brewed this with Brian and the legends at Youngcare to bring something special to life. It’s available on tap at our brewery and at select events in Queensland.”
Proceeds from Brian’s Brew sales will directly support Youngcare’s mission to enhance housing options and independence for young Australians living with high physical care needs. Youngcare aims to address the housing crisis faced by more than 2.5 million Australians under 65 with disabilities, many of whom remain in unsuitable accommodations.
Brian’s Brew not only celebrates a personal story of resilience but also advances a broader cause dedicated to improving lives across the nation.
