Worthy Park Estate 109 Rum, representing Jamaica, stood out for its robust profile. Crafted by a distillery previously honored as IWSC Rum Producer of the Year in 2023, the high-proof rum is a blend of spirits aged three years in ex-bourbon barrels. Judges praised its earthy aroma layered with dark dried fruits, caramel, and chocolate, and a creamy palate featuring molasses, dried fruit, and a peppery finish.

From Martinique, Clément Rhum 15 YO Private Cask Whisky Brokers Associates Exclusive impressed with its depth and refinement. This agricole rum, produced from fresh cane juice and aged 15 years in ex-bourbon barrels, was selected by Cellar Master Julien Thimon. The panel noted its complex aroma of gingerbread, molasses, dark chocolate, and polished wood, alongside a fruitcake-like palate enriched by cigar notes, orange zest, and baking spices.

Barbados was represented by Foursquare Rum Distillery Equidem 14 YO, a blend of two distinct 14-year-old rums. One component aged in ex-bourbon and then ex-Cognac barrels, while the other spent most of its time in ex-bourbon barrels before a Camus Cognac finish. Judges highlighted its vibrant tropical fruit aroma with underlying wood, warm spices, and caramel. The rum offers a delicate mouthfeel and a finish marked by sweetness, pepper, and dried fruit.

Australia’s Fnq Palladium Rum, from Mt. Uncle Distillery in North Queensland, earned recognition despite its limited availability. Using locally sourced cane molasses, the distillery created a small-batch rum that delivered creamy vanilla aromas with hints of oak and pepper. Tasting notes included caramel, banana, coconut, and raisins, culminating in a rich, sweet finish.

Jamaica’s Monymusk Special Reserve 10 YO, produced by National Rums of Jamaica Limited, combines pot and column still rums aged for at least a decade. Judges noted aromas reminiscent of gingerbread latte and cinnamon, with a flavor profile showcasing tropical fruits, sweet oak, baking spices, and a lingering finish with nuances of banana and nutmeg.

Rounding out the list is Nine To One Red Sugar Cane Rum from Taiwan’s Hong Shing Winery Co. Distilled using a custom continuous still and local ingredients, this Asia-exclusive release featured green apple and sugary banana juice aromas. It was praised for a warm, smooth flavor, dry mouthfeel, and clean, lingering finish.

Together, these six expressions exemplify the blending of tradition and innovation in today’s rum industry. Their recognition by the IWSC not only celebrates craftsmanship but also cements their status as some of the most sought-after spirits of the year among collectors and connoisseurs.
