One of Indiana’s most anticipated summer events, the Indiana Wine Fair, is set to return to Story Inn on May 31, celebrating its 21st year with a wide selection of locally crafted wines and expanded entertainment offerings.
The event, which began more than two decades ago, was founded by the late Rick Hofstetter, a former owner of Story Inn known for his passion for wine and local collaboration. According to event volunteer Claire Becraft, Hofstetter envisioned the fair as a platform to promote Indiana’s burgeoning wine industry while making use of Story Inn’s picturesque setting.
This year, more than 15 wineries from across Indiana will participate, offering guests one-ounce tastings of their signature wines. Participating vendors range from Huber’s Orchard, Winery & Vineyards in Borden, to Rejoicing Vineyards in Indianapolis, and the well-known Oliver Winery in Bloomington.
“All the wineries featured are exclusively from Indiana,” Becraft noted. “We’ve been promoting Indiana wines for 21 years now, and that focus hasn’t changed.”
Beyond wine, the fair has broadened its culinary and cultural appeal. Food offerings have grown from a single truck in previous years to three gourmet food trucks and two dessert vendors in 2024. Additionally, 13 Brown County artists will be on-site, showcasing their work as part of a new art-themed initiative for the fair.
Live music will accompany the event, with performances by Bob Feddersen from noon to 2:45 p.m., followed by Zion Crossroads from 3:15 to 6 p.m. The festivities will conclude with a comedy show at 8:30 p.m., headlined by The Bob and Tom Show comedian Rich Ragains, alongside Brian Smiley and David Brooks.
Becraft, a veteran of the wine industry with 25 years of experience, has assisted with the fair since 2022. She emphasized the inclusive and welcoming atmosphere the event offers.
“It’s a very eclectic, versatile group of people that come together to enjoy the wine, food, music, and scenery,” she said. “There’s dancing, laughter, and a real sense of community. It’s truly a wonderful afternoon.”
