A South London distillery with more than 150 years of history continues to welcome visitors today, offering a range of experiences for gin enthusiasts.
Hayman’s Gin Distillery, located in Balham, was originally founded in 1863 by James Burrough, the innovator behind the classic London Dry Gin profile. Although the distillery was first established in Chelsea, it later relocated south of the river to its current site in Balham.
Still operated by the founding family, Hayman’s continues to use the original recipe developed by Burrough, maintaining the traditional methods that have defined its gin for generations.
The distillery produces eight varieties of gin, including its flagship London Dry Gin, along with Old Tom Gin, Sloe Gin, Peach & Rose Cup, and the lower-alcohol London Light.
Visitors can explore the distillery through its Gin Distillery Tour, priced at £25. The guided experience offers a behind-the-scenes look at the production process and includes a complimentary gin cocktail tasting.
For those seeking a more interactive experience, Hayman’s offers gin masterclasses at £50 per person. These sessions include education on gin craftsmanship and hands-on martini making, with each participant served three cocktails during the class.
Additionally, the distillery hosts “Summer Sessions” on select evenings, allowing guests to enjoy drinks in a relaxed setting. The next session is scheduled for May 29, with the venue open between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Bookings for tours and classes are currently available online, with dates running from June through October.
