Cayman Airways has launched the Caribbean’s first airline-branded craft beer, adding a new local flavor to its international inflight service. The flagship carrier collaborated with Cayman Islands Brewery (Caybrew) to develop “Sir Turtle’s Sky Brew,” a custom India Pale Ale (IPA) designed to reflect the Caymanian spirit and to enhance the passenger experience at cruising altitude.
The exclusive beer, introduced on 22 May, is being offered for a limited time as a $6 inflight sample on Cayman Airways’ international jet routes. The launch follows the airline’s earlier partnership with Cayman Spirits Company to serve Seven Fathoms Rum Punch, further expanding a menu that highlights locally crafted beverages.
“Just as our complimentary rum punch has become a signature part of the Cayman Airways experience, Sky Brew represents another authentic celebration of local talent and craftsmanship, offering our passengers a unique taste of Cayman before they even land,” said Paul Tibbetts, the airline’s chief financial officer and executive vice president for commercial affairs.
Developing a beverage suitable for inflight consumption posed unique challenges. The beer was specifically engineered for high-altitude service, taking into account the effects of cabin pressure and dry air on taste, carbonation, and aroma. The result, according to Caybrew, is a balanced IPA with a “pleasant aroma and clean finish” and a smooth, refreshing character adapted for the skies.
Mark Haring, Caybrew’s brand manager, described the brew as “an exclusive beer that captures the essence of our islands in every sip.”
The initiative aligns with Cayman Airways’ current expansion of its summer schedule, which now includes international destinations such as Montego Bay, Kingston, Denver, Miami, Tampa, New York, Los Angeles, La Ceiba, Panama, and Havana.
“Cayman Airways is known for offering the most international nonstop flights to and from the Cayman Islands,” noted Olivia Scott-Ramirez, the airline’s senior marketing and public relations manager.
With the introduction of Sir Turtle’s Sky Brew, Cayman Airways joins a select group of global carriers — including British Airways, Icelandair, Korean Air, Alaska Airlines, Cathay Pacific, and Scandinavian Airlines — that have introduced proprietary beers for inflight service.
