Portland, Ore. – June 2, 2025 — A new collaboration between the Sport Oregon Foundation’s She Flies initiative and Backwoods Brewing Company is turning craft beer into a vehicle for social impact. The two organizations have announced the launch of She Flies Hazy Pale, a purpose-driven beer brewed to celebrate and support girls and women in sports throughout Oregon.
The limited-release beer, developed by Backwoods Brewing and distributed by Columbia Distributing, pledges a $2 donation to the She Flies initiative for every case sold—or the equivalent amount per keg. Proceeds will go directly toward grants for Oregon-based nonprofits that promote female participation in sports, develop women coaches, and encourage lifelong fitness among women. Since its inception in 2022, She Flies has awarded more than $340,000 in grants to these causes.
“She Flies Hazy is about community, empowerment, and celebrating the strength and spirit of women in sport,” said Kristin Spear, Director of the Sport Oregon Foundation. “It’s a great way to toast to progress while helping fuel the future of women’s athletics in our state.”
The beer itself reflects the region’s craft brewing excellence. Featuring Simcoe, Amarillo, and Mosaic hops, She Flies Hazy delivers bright citrus and fruit-forward flavors with a balanced hop finish. It comes in at 5.5% ABV and 34 IBU. The beer is now available at all three Backwoods Brewing locations, as well as select bars and retailers across the Pacific Northwest.
Furthering its commitment to empowering women, Backwoods Brewing is intentionally sourcing ingredients from women-owned suppliers. Specialty malts for the beer are provided by Montana Craft Malt, a woman-owned maltster, and the company is actively pursuing hops sourced from a woman-owned farm, ideally based in Oregon.
