Laughing Monk Brewing to Open New Taproom in San Francisco’s NoPa Neighborhood

by Kaia

Laughing Monk Brewing, recognized among the Bay Area’s top craft breweries by the San Francisco Chronicle, is set to launch a new location in the city’s NoPa neighborhood. The brewery will occupy the former Barrel Head Brewhouse space at 1785 Fulton Street, owner Sam Ghadiri confirmed.

The upcoming taproom is expected to feature Laughing Monk’s signature Belgian-style offerings, including dubbels and trippels, alongside other popular styles such as pilsners and IPAs. However, the exact opening date has yet to be announced.

The site has been vacant since Barrel Head Brewhouse closed last summer after a decade of operation. Co-owner Ivan Hopkinson cited financial challenges exacerbated by the pandemic as the reason for shuttering the location, although his team continues to run Lost Marbles Brewpub in the Richmond District.

In 2023, Ghadiri acquired Laughing Monk Brewing and merged it with Faultline Brewing, as reported by Eater. This new taproom will mark the brewery’s fourth location.

Laughing Monk currently operates gastropubs in Scotts Valley and Sunnyvale—both formerly Faultline sites—as well as its original production facility and taproom in San Francisco’s Bayview District, established in 2016.
