Chet Valley, a well-established English wine estate located in Norfolk, has been listed for sale through property agency Brown & Co. Owned by John and Bridget Hemmant, who planted the first vines over a decade ago, the estate offers a fully equipped winery and bottle storage facilities, presenting an immediate opportunity for buyers to enter the English wine industry. An additional 2.61 hectares of land is available for expansion, enhancing the estate’s potential.

Situated in East Anglia, the vineyard benefits from a climate increasingly favorable for viticulture, despite the challenges posed by adverse weather conditions experienced by many UK producers in 2024. Experts suggest that warmer temperatures may continue to improve grape-growing prospects in the region, potentially enabling vintages comparable to the exceptional 2018 harvest, according to a 2022 study published in the Oeno One journal.

The estate also includes a three-bedroom residence, which has been successfully operated as a holiday let, and an entertainment space featuring a balcony overlooking the vines.

The UK wine sector has attracted growing interest in recent years. Knight Frank, a global consultancy, recently reported rising vineyard land prices in Essex, despite stagnation or declines in more established wine-producing regions worldwide. However, Ed Mansel Lewis, Knight Frank’s partner and head of viticulture, noted in the June 2025 issue of Decanter magazine that UK vineyard land prices may have plateaued after a recent surge in production.

With a guide price set at £1.65 million, the Chet Valley estate presents a unique opportunity for investors or wine enthusiasts to establish themselves within England’s burgeoning viticulture landscape.
