In a move aimed at enhancing the quality and safety of craft beer served in the national capital, the Delhi Excise Department has issued new directives requiring microbreweries to submit monthly beer samples for laboratory testing.
Under the latest guidelines, all establishments holding an L-11 licence—which authorizes on-site brewing and sale of beer—must send beer samples to the Excise Department’s official laboratory each month for comprehensive analysis. In addition to submitting the samples, microbreweries are now required to prominently display the certification reports issued by the government lab within their premises.
According to reports from The Indian Express and Times of India, Delhi is currently home to approximately six to ten microbreweries, largely concentrated in popular commercial hubs such as Saket and Connaught Place.
The new directive builds on existing regulations that already mandate in-house chemists at microbreweries to certify that each batch of beer is safe for human consumption before it reaches customers. The introduction of monthly external testing is intended to further bolster public health safeguards and maintain quality assurance across the city’s craft beer industry.
