PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) — A new craft beer is making its debut across the Pacific Northwest, and its mission goes beyond taste. “She Flies Hazy,” a hazy-style beer brewed by Backwoods Brewing Company, has been launched in partnership with the Sport Oregon Foundation’s She Flies initiative to promote and support women and girls in sports.
With each case sold, $2 will be donated to the She Flies initiative by Columbia Distributing and Columbia Brewing, the beer’s distribution partners. The initiative has already distributed more than $340,000 in grants to Oregon-based nonprofits that support girls’ athletics, women coaches, and lifelong fitness opportunities for women.
“She Flies Hazy is about community, empowerment, and celebrating the strength and spirit of women in sport,” said Kristin Spear, Director of the Sport Oregon Foundation. “It’s a great way to toast to progress while helping fuel the future of women’s athletics in our state.”
The beer, featuring a 5.5% alcohol by volume (ABV), is now available at Backwoods Brewing locations in Carson, Hillsboro, and Portland, as well as at select bars throughout the region.
As part of the initiative’s broader commitment to supporting women, the brewing process also prioritizes women-owned businesses. The specialty malts used in She Flies Hazy are sourced from Montana Craft Malt, a woman-owned maltster, and efforts are underway to procure hops from a woman-owned farm in Oregon.
“Backwoods Brewing is honored to partner with She Flies on a beer that uplifts such a meaningful mission,” said Steve Waters, owner of Backwoods Brewing. “As a family-owned company rooted in the Northwest, we believe in community-driven collaborations that make a difference, and this one truly soars.”
