BasBas is a unique “hierbas” liqueur that carries a rich legacy dating back five generations. Originating from the picturesque island of Ibiza, this artisanal spirit is a blend of a dozen wild herbs and spices, carefully crafted from a recipe passed down through the ages.
The drink’s origins trace back to 16th-century monks who first distilled wild herbs from the island into what is now known as hierbas—an essence of Iberian culture that reflects centuries of tradition and craftsmanship. These monks often used fermented wild fennel as a medicinal ingredient and extracted essential oils from herbs like rosemary, juniper, chamomile, and sage, infusing them in alcohol to create this distinctive liqueur.
Traditional Production Method: Patience and Precision
BasBas is created by steeping these wild herbs and spices in herbal alcohol for an extended period of 10 months. This slow maceration process allows the full spectrum of flavors and aromas to develop, resulting in a rich, complex taste profile.
The liqueur is bottled at 25% alcohol by volume (ABV), striking a balanced intensity that preserves the delicate herbal notes while maintaining a smooth, approachable character.
How to Enjoy BasBas
The versatility of BasBas makes it an ideal addition to any liquor cabinet. It can be savored straight up or chilled for a refreshing experience. Additionally, BasBas has a signature cocktail that is rapidly gaining popularity: a mix of equal parts BasBas, sparkling wine, and soda water. This light, effervescent drink showcases the liqueur’s herbal complexity with an inviting fizz, perfect for social occasions and warm weather.
Bemakers Brings BasBas to European Markets
Paul Geller, founder of Holy Seed Beverage Group, expressed enthusiasm about BasBas’s journey:
“Some brands are born in a lab. BasBas was born barefoot under the Ibiza sun, with a recipe that has been handed down for five generations and a wild story that deserves to be told after a few sips.”
The liqueur has now joined the Bemakers family, a distribution platform known for curating authentic and craft beverages across Europe. BasBas is available through Bemakers in Denmark, Germany, Spain, and Sweden, priced at SEK 400 (approximately €37 or $42) per bottle.
Bemakers’ Growing Portfolio and Industry Presence
Earlier in 2025, Bemakers expanded its Danish portfolio by adding The Duppy Share rum, demonstrating its commitment to offering diverse and quality spirits. Additionally, Bemakers recently received approval from the UK Department of Business and Trade (DBT) as an official service provider, further strengthening its position in the global beverage distribution market.
BasBas’s rich history, careful production, and authentic Ibiza roots make it a compelling choice for consumers seeking a traditional herbal liqueur with a modern appeal. Its availability through Bemakers promises to bring the essence of Iberian culture to a wider audience across Europe.
