One of Houston’s prominent bar entrepreneurs is expanding his footprint with a major new development in the Energy Corridor. Steven Salazar, known for the success of Katy Beer Garden, is set to open Ashford Beer Garden at Ashford Yard, a mixed-use project rising on the site of a former Schlumberger campus.
Scheduled to debut in early 2026, Ashford Beer Garden will span approximately 21,000 square feet. The venue will feature a 10,000-square-foot indoor beer hall paired with a cocktail bar, and an 11,000-square-foot outdoor beer garden shaded by mature trees. The concept builds on the Bavarian-inspired atmosphere that made Katy Beer Garden a local favorite since opening in summer 2024.
“We’re sticking with that Bavarian charm,” Salazar has said of the project’s design, emphasizing a family-friendly, multi-generational appeal. The relaxed environment, he notes, was a key factor in the original location’s popularity.
The Ashford location will introduce several enhancements over its predecessor. Most notably, it will include a full-service kitchen, a departure from Katy Beer Garden’s reliance on food trucks and an adjacent food court. Salazar is currently seeking a chef to lead the culinary program.
Additionally, the venue will feature a second-floor patio designed to accommodate private events, as well as an enlarged screen to improve the sports viewing experience for patrons.
Ashford Yard, located at the intersection of Dairy Ashford Road and Briar Forest Drive, covers 12.7 acres and is being developed by Houston-based firms Market Square Companies and Tenon Property Company. The development will combine residential, dining, and retail elements.
Salazar praised the developers’ commitment to quality and community-oriented design. “We have a similar vision of quality for the community and creating a space and having great neighbors,” he said. “Not being a strip center but a true development that’s above and beyond what the area has to offer.”
The location’s proximity to major employers like Shell and Baker Hughes, along with surrounding residential neighborhoods, further solidified Salazar’s decision to bring his latest venture to the area.
