Southport Beer Week Set to Celebrate Real Ale with Over 80 Beers Across 20 Venues

The inaugural Southport Beer Week is set to run from Thursday, May 22, to Sunday, May 25, 2025, promising a fantastic celebration of real ale and craft beer across the town’s vibrant pub and bar scene. Hosted by 20 venues around Southport town centre, the event offers beer enthusiasts a unique opportunity to sample a wide variety of brews while participating in fun activities and events.

Ale Trail with Prizes to Win

One of the standout features of Southport Beer Week is the Ale Trail, which offers participants the chance to win exciting prizes. Starting this weekend, festival-goers can pick up Ale Trail booklets at any of the participating venues. To take part, visitors simply need to enjoy a beer at seven of the listed pubs or bars and get their booklet stamped at each location. The grand prize for completing the trail is a £250 voucher to spend at any Southport town centre venue, with additional runner-up prizes, including beers from local breweries and other goodies from Southport businesses. With 20 venues on the trail, attendees will have plenty of chances to explore both old favourites and new spots.

Over 80 Beers to Sample

The festival will feature a vast selection of over 80 different beers from participating venues. Beer lovers can indulge in a diverse range of ales, with many venues hosting special events to deepen attendees’ knowledge of the brews on offer. Tap & Bottles, for instance, will be hosting a meet-the-brewer session with Bootle-based Colbier on Thursday evening, followed by a Rivington Brewery tap takeover on Saturday. The Masons Arms will showcase beers from the Titanic Brewery throughout the event, while The Sir Henry Segrave pub will hold a Dark v Light Mini Beer Festival featuring four dark and four light beers. Additionally, Southport Brewery has created a special Southport Beer Week Bitter to celebrate the occasion.

Special Events Throughout the Week

A range of exciting events will take place during Southport Beer Week, adding extra enjoyment to the festivities. On Thursday, May 22, The Guest House will host a beer-themed traditional pub quiz. On Saturday, May 24, local historian David Walshe will lead a sold-out guided walk focusing on the ‘Lost & Old Pubs of Southport.’ The day will also feature an outdoor BBQ at The Windmill and a Brewtopia event at The Fool. Explore New Pubs and Bars

Southport Beer Week provides the perfect opportunity to explore some of the town’s hidden gems. Visitors can discover new venues such as Kokomo and The Grazing Lounge, which will offer delicious street food on the weekend of May 24 and 25. The Engine Room, located inside Wayfarers Arcade, will also feature beers from Neptune Brewery. Whether revisiting old favourites or trying new spots, the festival promises to showcase the best of Southport’s pub scene.

Live Music Adds to the Atmosphere

As an added bonus, the event will feature live music performances across the town. The Masons Arms, for instance, will host live music for the first time during the festival. Other venues such as The Fool, Kokomo, Punch Tarmeys, and Southport Coaster will also feature live music, adding to the vibrant atmosphere of the event.

Southport Beer Week is being organized in collaboration with Southport Pubwatch members and Southport BID, the business improvement district representing over 750 businesses in Southport Town Centre. Local artist Ruth Ryder of ‘Ruthie Illustrations’ has designed the event’s original artwork.
