WICHITA, Kan. — An unconventional race combining camaraderie, canine companions, and cold brews is set to return to Wichita this summer for its third consecutive year.
Side Pockets Restaurant and Sports Bar will host the 3rd Annual Barks, Brews & Running Shoes .5K Beer Run on Saturday, June 7, with all proceeds benefiting the Kansas Humane Society.
Far from a traditional endurance event, the 0.5-kilometer race—just over one-third of a mile—focuses less on speed and more on spirit. The lighthearted affair invites runners, dog lovers, and beer enthusiasts to take part in a community-centric experience that supports animal welfare efforts.
“We’re thrilled to host this event for the third year,” said Elayna Duncan, general manager of Side Pockets, in a press release. “It’s a fantastic opportunity to bring people together, have a great time, and raise money for the Kansas Humane Society, an organization that does so much for our community.”
The festivities begin with packet pickup at 9:30 a.m., followed by the race start at 10:30 a.m. Participants will gather at Side Pockets, located at 614 S. Tyler Rd., and are encouraged to bring their leashed dogs along for the run.
Each registration includes a finisher’s medal, a limited-edition T-shirt, and—for participants aged 21 and over—a post-run beer. The event will also feature sponsor booths, giveaways, and photo opportunities throughout the morning.
Proceeds will go to the Kansas Humane Society, a nonprofit that provides shelter, adoption services, and veterinary care for animals throughout the region.
