Prices in the Bordeaux 2024 en primeur campaign have dropped significantly, marking one of the most notable early pricing corrections in recent years. Several high-profile châteaux have released their wines at sharply reduced rates, making the 2024 vintage the most affordable offering of their grand vin currently available on the market.
Among the leading estates, Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Angélus, and Château Cheval Blanc have each reduced release prices by approximately 30% compared to the previous year. This pricing strategy reflects levels not seen in more than a decade.
Farr Vintners noted the historical significance of the move, stating, “One has to go back 16 years to find a release price lower than this,” in reference to the launch of Lafite Rothschild 2024, priced at £1,713 per six-bottle case in bond.
Data from Liv-ex, the global wine marketplace, further highlighted the trend. Château Cheval Blanc 2024 was released at €276 per bottle ex-négociant, representing the lowest release price for the estate since 2008.
The reductions signal a potential recalibration of Bordeaux en primeur pricing strategies, as producers respond to evolving market conditions and buyer expectations.
