Despite a downturn in the overall craft beer market, San Diego’s breweries continue to stand out among the state’s finest. At the recent Brewers Cup of California, local breweries garnered significant recognition, with seven winning gold medals.
In total, San Diego beers claimed nine additional medals across the competition’s 64 categories, further cementing the region’s reputation for quality craft brews.
Leading the charge, North Park’s TapRoom Beer Co. secured three medals, including a gold in the specialty stout category for its True Dark. Meanwhile, Pizza Port Brewing Company triumphed in the Irish-style red ale category, taking home a gold for its Irish Hello. The brewery earned a total of three medals, with one awarded to its San Clemente location.
Other notable winners included Burning Beard Brewing, Fall Brewing Company, Hodad’s Brewing Company, Pure Project, and the San Marcos location of Tarantula Hill Brewing Co., each of which received gold medals in their respective categories.
This year’s success follows a similar performance from 2024, when six local breweries earned gold medals, with Pizza Port alone securing four.
The competition, which attracted 1,360 entries from 203 independent breweries, was judged by a panel of experts who evaluated the quality and craftmanship of each submission.
