Christian Drouin has unveiled Chichibu Angels, the 11th release in its ongoing ‘Angels’ label series, also known as the Experimental range. This limited-edition Calvados continues the brand’s tradition of blending French craftsmanship with international influence.
Aged in Rare Japanese Whisky Casks
The new release is a 12-year-old Pays d’Auge Calvados, finished for four to ten months in five casks that previously held Japanese single malt whisky from Chichibu Distillery, located in Saitama prefecture, Japan.
This special cask finish brings together the refined aromas of one of Japan’s rarest whiskies with the classic character of Normandy’s famous eau de vie.
Honoring the Craft with Japanese Influence
Guillaume Drouin, president of Christian Drouin Calvados, spoke highly of the collaboration:
“It was a true honour for us to have the opportunity to work with such rare and precious casks, such as those from Chichibu. They imparted a refined elegance and delicate complexity to our Calvados, elevating its character in a remarkable way.”
Tasting Notes: From Orchard Fruit to Barley
Chichibu Angels opens with aromas of roasted apple and quince jam. On the palate, it offers notes of barley husk, apple skin, and fresh citrus, creating a rich and layered flavor profile.
Limited to 2,082 Bottles Worldwide
Only 2,082 bottles of Chichibu Angels have been produced globally. In the UK, the release is being distributed by Speciality Brands on an allocation basis. The recommended retail price is £105 (US$142) for a 700ml bottle.
Continuing a Legacy of Innovation
The Angels series has previously included Calvados expressions aged in barrels from leading producers such as Caroni and Hampden rum distilleries, Hine Cognac, and whisky casks from Springbank, Arran, and Mars Distillery in Japan.
Each release in the series represents Christian Drouin’s commitment to experimentation, quality, and global collaboration.
