Sioux Falls, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The Great Outdoor Store is gearing up for its annual Gear & Beer event this Saturday, blending brews with the latest outdoor gear for a weekend of fun while supporting a local nonprofit.
Now in its 7th year, Gear & Beer promises to offer a diverse lineup of activities and attractions, including craft beer from Remedy Brewing Co., delectable treats from Taverns + Tots, a lively camp stove cooking contest, enticing raffle packages, and an opportunity to explore the newest outdoor supplies and apparel.
Since its inception in 2017, Gear & Beer has become a staple community event, marking the start of the summer season with enthusiasm.
“We wanted to have talks about activities out there that people could engage in and then build it in with a nonprofit that we could raise some money for,” explained GOS owner DeAnn Echols.
Proceeds from this year’s event will support Falls Area Single Track (FAST), aiding in the expansion of their trail systems around Sioux Falls.
“We’ve always been closely aligned with FAST. They do great work in the community, building singletrack trails throughout the whole city,” said Echols.
“Gear & Beer’s an awesome way to bring all those people we work with together in one spot to raise money for something beneficial, something good, and just to build more relationships and community,” added Anna Gette, events coordinator and staff culture lead.
Gear & Beer attendees can anticipate a bustling atmosphere with over a dozen vendor tables to explore, along with engaging contests offering chances to win exciting prizes.
At noon, spectators can witness the Camp Iron Chef cookoff, where competitors will showcase their culinary skills using dehydrated meals and camp stoves. Judges, all mothers in the spirit of Mother’s Day weekend, will evaluate contestants based on creativity and presentation.
“Gear & Beer” will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on May 11 at the GOS lawn in downtown Sioux Falls.
