Macallan and Bentley Motors have unveiled their collaborative endeavor, marking the pinnacle of their global brand partnership initiated in July 2021. A year following the commencement of their alliance, the duo unveiled the prototype bottle design for The Macallan Horizon.
The Macallan Horizon boasts a distinctive horizontal bottle design, ingeniously crafted to mirror the “horizontal trajectory of the automotive world.” Featuring a twisted shape, this innovative design is symbolic of the dynamic essence of the automotive realm.
A testament to The Macallan’s core principles, the release integrates six materials, aligning with the brand’s renowned “six pillars” – the foundational elements of its identity. Crafted from glass, the bottle is adorned with an aluminum ribbon, enveloped in a low-carbon leather sculpture, and encased within a recycled copper frame, repurposed from former Macallan stills. Further incorporating the element of wood, the closure showcases an oak wood inlay, complemented by Bentley’s Crown Cut Walnut veneer, originally developed for its luxury vehicles.
The heart of The Macallan Horizon lies in its single malt Scotch, a novel expression curated by master whisky maker Kirsteen Campbell. Sourced from six first-fill Sherry-seasoned oak casks, the whisky aspires to encapsulate the quintessence of Bentley’s essence.
In sensory terms, The Macallan Horizon promises an aromatic journey, with hints of “resinous polished oak with plums and dark cherries” on the nose, transitioning to a palate of “dark treacle notes with cinder toffee, crystallized ginger, and charred pineapple.” Its culmination delivers a “rich oak, long, and complex” finish, leaving a lasting impression on the discerning palate.
Jaume Ferras, Creative Director at The Macallan, expressed the profound collaboration between the two iconic brands, noting, “The Macallan Horizon is the most complex and visionary whisky project that The Macallan has embarked upon,” underscoring the transformative impact of the partnership with Bentley Motors.
The exclusive release of The Macallan Horizon is available at selected retailers, priced at £40,000 (US$51,274). Adrian Hallmark, Chairman and CEO of Bentley, hailed the joint endeavor as a culmination of years of meticulous craftsmanship and innovation, setting a new standard in design, materials, and quality within the industry.
Amidst its milestone celebrations, The Macallan recently forged a partnership with Cirque du Soleil, further testament to its commitment to innovation and creative collaboration.
