Ian Macleod Distillers has introduced a 15-year-old single malt to its Smokehead Islay whisky range. This new release is the brand’s oldest whisky to date, following the discontinued Extra Black 18-year-old.
Smokehead’s Unique Appeal to Whisky Adventurers
Smokehead was first launched in 2006 with a bold brand image and packaging. It targeted a younger, less traditional whisky audience. The new 15-year-old continues this approach by offering a rich and adventurous flavor profile.
Karen Walker, Smokehead Whisky Brand Director, said,
“This Islay single malt is our most outspoken expression yet. Its peat, citrus, and smoky flavors push the Smokehead concept to a new level. It will appeal to those who love adventure and are uninhibited.”
Tasting Notes and Strength
Bottled at 43% ABV, the Smokehead 15-year-old features notes of peat smoke, vanilla ice cream, sweet citrus, lemon zest, and brine. This combination offers a balanced yet exciting experience for whisky lovers.
Diverse Portfolio of Smokehead Expressions
The new 15-year-old joins other Smokehead expressions that do not carry age statements. These include:
Terminado (Tequila cask-finished)
Blast (Sherry cask-finished)
Twisted Stout (Partial Stout cask-finished)
Rebel (Rum cask-finished)
Availability and Pricing
Smokehead 15 Year Old is now available worldwide, including the UK. The recommended retail price is £69.99 (around $94) for a 700ml bottle.
Ian Macleod Distillers’ Whisky Range and Future Plans
Besides Smokehead, Ian Macleod Distillers owns several other single malt brands, such as Rosebank, Tamdhu, and Glengoyne. Last year, the company partnered with independent bottlers The Islay Boys to develop the Laggan Bay distillery on Islay. This new distillery is expected to open later this year, promising further growth in Ian Macleod’s whisky offerings.
