The Beer Store is enhancing convenience for customers with the introduction of digital menus at select drive-thru locations, following the provincial government’s expansion of alcohol sales earlier this year.
The new digital displays, which provide detailed information on sales, promotions, and beer selection, were announced on Thursday. These screens aim to give customers more insight into product options while purchasing from their vehicles.
“We’re focused on providing a more convenient way for Ontarians to purchase beer,” said Roy Benin, President and CEO of The Beer Store, in a news release. “This is just one of the ways we’re improving the shopping experience for our customers.”
The initiative will initially roll out at seven locations, including two in the London region: the Beer Store locations at 414 Wharncliffe Rd. in London and 86 Beale St. in Woodstock.
Benin emphasized the convenience of the digital menus, saying, “We hope customers near these drive-thru locations will benefit from seeing a wider range of options and products while making their selection.”
The new digital features are designed to streamline the buying process, allowing customers to explore The Beer Store’s inventory before they complete their purchase. The drive-thru setup allows customers to stay in their cars while staff delivers the products to their trunks.
In September, Ontario’s provincial government expanded alcohol sales to include licensed grocery and convenience stores, allowing thousands of additional locations to sell beer, wine, cider, and ready-to-drink cocktails.
While the expansion has been welcomed by many, it has raised concerns among health organizations, particularly in regions like Oxford and Elgin counties. Southwestern Public Health, the local health unit, expressed concerns about the potential for increased alcohol-related harm in the region.
In addition to London and Woodstock, digital menus will also be introduced at Beer Store drive-thrus in cities like Cambridge, Waterloo, Peterborough, Huntsville, and Kitchener.
As the Beer Store rolls out this digital initiative, it reflects ongoing efforts to adapt to a changing retail environment and meet the growing demand for convenience in alcohol sales across Ontario.
