Wetherspoon to Discontinue San Miguel Beer, Replacing It with Poretti

by Kaia

Wetherspoon patrons will soon have to say farewell to a popular menu item, as the budget-friendly pub chain is set to discontinue the Spanish lager San Miguel at all locations by the end of November. Starting in December, the pub chain will introduce Poretti, a new beer offering that will reportedly be priced below £4 per pint in most outlets.

This shift comes despite San Miguel’s status as the UK’s top-rated beer, according to recent research. A survey by YouGov, conducted between July and September, found that San Miguel held a 61% favorability rating among the public, leading the list of 164 well-known brands. Guinness followed with a 53% positive rating, while ciders such as Kopparberg, Strongbow, and Thatchers Gold tied for third with 51% each.

Wetherspoon has not disclosed the specific reasons behind the decision but confirmed that San Miguel will be available until the end of the month. A spokesperson told Metro, “San Miguel will be available in pubs until the end of November.”

The announcement has drawn a mixed response from Wetherspoon regulars. On social media, some fans expressed disappointment, with one commenter saying they were “gutted it’s going,” while another expressed stronger feelings, saying they were “p*ssed off” at the news. Others shared personal attachments to the beer, describing San Miguel as a “go-to” choice, particularly during the summer.

However, not all patrons were displeased. Some expressed indifference, with one user dismissing San Miguel as “one of the nastiest lagers out there” and another suggesting that “better Spanish lagers” are available.

As Wetherspoon transitions to Poretti, fans of San Miguel will need to enjoy their final pints before the month’s end.
