A transformative trip to Thailand inspired former model Jessica James to create a lifestyle brand that has successfully expanded into the wine and tea market. BuDhaGirl Sparkling wine launched in February and has already sold out its initial production.
James, who initially focused on jewelry, emphasized her passion for food, wine, and tea. “Eating and drinking are celebrations for me,” she said, noting that the contemplative practices integral to BuDhaGirl extend beyond jewelry. “We didn’t invent ritual; we bottled it,” she added, highlighting the brand’s commitment to mindful living.
BuDhaGirl Sparkling taps into the $4.3 trillion women’s wine market, as noted by Beverage Dynamics. The brand’s inception can be traced back to a life-changing moment in Thailand when monks gifted James bangles, inspiring her to blend fashion with mindfulness.
James’ journey took a pivotal turn when her son faced mental health challenges. “I witnessed the healing potential of the human mind through contemplative practices,” she recalled, realizing that a more holistic approach could complement traditional medicine.
Her first product, the BuDhaGirl All Weather Bangles, symbolizes daily intention and gratitude. “We built the company around providing intention in people’s lives, first through fashion and now through consumables,” James explained, highlighting the brand’s mission.
With the recent introduction of sparkling wine, James sees an opportunity to connect with a broader audience. The initial offerings include brut rosé and demi-sec, with plans for a 2021 vintage Napa Valley Sparkling Wine named Dragon Slayer, launching this October. Additionally, BuDhaGirl will release sparkling wines in 250ml cans by spring 2025.
The brand also features a line of blended teas, which James describes as an integral part of BuDhaGirl’s identity. “Enjoying tea is a ritual consumers understand, and our teas offer a journey through the day,” she said, emphasizing the brand’s commitment to mindful living and celebration.
