Award-winning Scottish drinks producer Bothy Trading has struck a retail partnership with the Co-op. Its Hipflask Spirits and Gunshot Whisky will appear in 107 Co-op stores across Scotland.
Brand Strategy and Retail Expansion
This marks the second national retail listing for Hipflask. The brand first launched in selected Morrisons stores in 2024. Founder Kim Cameron said the company designed Hipflask and Gunshot to compete with large national brands. She added that Gin Bothy and Rum Bothy remain reserved for independent retailers.
Hands-On Rollout Support
Ms. Cameron’s team visited over half of the Co-op sites, from Skye to Stirling. They aim to support the rollout and build local relationships.
Company Origins and Growth
Bothy Trading is based in Angus and began with Gin Bothy. Ms. Cameron started by making small-batch gin with traditional methods and local ingredients. Today, Bothy Trading sells more than 70,000 bottles a year around the world.
Expanding Product Portfolio
The Bothy Trading lineup now includes:
Gin Bothy (original range)
Hipflask Spirits (raspberry gin in Co-op; blackcurrant vodka in Morrisons)
Gunshot Whisky (launched in Co-op)
The Jam Bothy, Bothy Butter
Bothy Distillery, set to open in Glen Prosen later this year
Morrisons will also carry Hipflask Blackcurrant Vodka and the Great Taste two-star Sloe Bramble Gin.
Awards and Future Plans
Both Hipflask Spirits and Gunshot Whisky won Great Taste Awards and IWSC medals in 2024. Ms. Cameron said she is excited for more people to taste these products. She views the move into whisky as a natural step that taps into Scotland’s rich resources.
